MANASI RAM MEMORIAL LECTURE

Dr. Manasi Ram

The Manasi Ram Memorial Lecture was instituted in the memory of Dr. Manasi Ram, who was amongst the first few teachers to join the Department of Botany, Miranda House. She passed away in 1996. The fund for the Memorial Lecture was created by her husband, Prof. H.Y. Mohan Ram, and other family members.

Dr. Manasi Ram nee-Ghosh belonged to the first batch of Mirandians. She was a recipient of Fulbright Scholarship and visited Cornell University. Her research work on Trapa, and Santalaceae is noteworthy and still referred to by the research community. She was a mother figure and her house was always open for colleagues and students of the Botany Department. She was a nature lover who enriched the Botanical Museum of Miranda House with various plant specimens collected from India and abroad. She was not only a dedicated teacher but also an avid reader of other science subjects. Keeping in mind her wide interest in science, this Memorial Lecture aims at popularizing science amongst students and teachers.

The Twentieth Manasi Ram Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof. Paramjit Khurana, Department of Plant Molecular Biology, University of Delhi South Campus on “Plant Sciences and Changing Climatic Conditions” on 11th February, 2019.
