EVENTS (2018-19)

The month of July marked the beginning of a new academic session. The freshers were cordially welcomed. The year was filled with fun as well as academically centered activities like 'Sudoku Wars' organized in two rounds in the month of August for first year students of all departments, a talk with Dr. Harish Chandra (Professor, BHU) on Euler's Theorem, a generalized form of Fermat's Theorem on 1st Oct'18 and a talk with Ms.Ilma Afroz (IPS Officer) followed by an interactive session with students. The four day lecture series on “The Lure of Continued Fractions” (dated 31st January'19, 4th, 7th, 11th February'19) by Prof. Amitabha Tripathi (IIT Delhi) helped enhance the students' knowledge on several uncovered aspects of Mathematics.

Besides academics, the department motivates the students for team work and hence organized a one day departmental trip to Agra in the month of April'19. The Department celebrated its Annual Festival Origin’19 on 6th March; 2019.The festival was a great success with participation from more than 20 colleges. This year Origin hosted three enthralling events aimed at promoting a fun approach to learning.

The first event Stratazenith was organized in collaboration with 'The Indian Game Theory Society’, Delhi Technological University. Just a minute was the second event and it included a plethora of 1 minute games. Cocina Hunt the food themed Scavenger hunt was the third and the final event. Origin'19 was a huge success with the immense support of teachers, volunteers and participants.



EVENTS (2019-20)

The Department of Mathematics hosted several fruitful events that extended learning beyond the four walls of a conventional classroom in the session 2019-2020.

The month of July marked the start of a new academic session. A special Fresher’s celebration was organized which was notably a plastic-free event. The second edition of ‘Sudoku Wars’ for fresher’s took place and witnessed massive participation from students belonging to all departments.

The Department organized a workshop titled ‘Calculus-The Geometrical Way’ in association with the Indian Mathematical Consortium (IMC). The speakers were renowned educators Professor K. Sandeep from TIFR, Bangalore and Dr. R. Panda from Department of Mathematics, University of Delhi. Motivational speaker sessions by IAS Achiever Mr. Satender Singh (AIR 714, 2018) headed highly interactive and informative session with the students, inspiring them to pursue their civil services examination dreams. Department trip to Udaipur took place from the 12th to the 16th of September which served as a rejuvenating experience for both the faculty and the students, and allowed the Department to bond and celebrate together.

Professor Sat Gupta, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of North Carolina was our guest speaker to talk about undergraduate research opportunities at U.S. universities in January. February witnessed lectures by Mr. Anshul Mittal, an actuary at Apollo Munich Health Insurance on Actuarial science and Mr. Gaurav Kaushal, IDES(IAS-allied) officer on Mathematics Optional for Civil Services examination.

The 2020 edition of our annual inter college Festival Origin was a combination of academic and fun events which saw some events like Paper presentation, Mathematical Bingo and Shatranj-e-Maths along with our classics like Scavenger Hunt, Just a Minute and Mathematical Relay. We also encouraged participation of people from other fields by means of our online competitions. In all Origin 2020 was a sui generis experience not just for the organizers but also for all the participants.
