Legal Literacy Course

The main purpose of the course is to create awareness on laws pertaining to rights and duties of citizens in India. The course is in collaboration with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority. The course consists of 10 sessions over a period of five days. Visits to neighbourhood police stations are organised to familiarise students to the law enforcement processes and filing of FIRs. The students also visit various courts as well as prisons in order to delve into the working of the criminal justice system. Mock Courts are organised in order to develop the skills of legal arguments and to strengthen the applicability of laws to case proceedings. 60 to 80 students from BA Honours Political Science and BA Programme participate in the course every year.

This course is organized as a part of an extension under the Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) of the discipline of Political Science, Legal Literacy and Your Laws, Your Rights. It is in an interactive mode and the resource persons who are experts in their field include Academics, Advocates from Supreme Court and High Court and members of Delhi State Legal Service Authority (DSLA).

Consumer Awareness Course

The core aim of this course is to create awareness on consumer rights and responsibilities. The course consists of 6 sessions over a period of three days. The course combines lectures, interactive sessions, field work and student presentations. The experts include legal luminaries , academicians and consumer rights activists. The main themes of the course include understanding on consumer laws in the country, how to be a green consumer and be supportive of environmental protection as well as be peer educators on raising consumer awareness. Creative methods like poster making and street plays are also used for awareness generation. The course is conducted every year and 80-100 students participate in the same.
