Peer Review Guidelines for the Miranda Law and Policy Review

Thank you for agreeing to serve as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Law and Policy Review.

Your expertise and insights are essential in maintaining the high quality of our publication.

Please follow these guidelines when reviewing submissions:

  1. Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest:

- Please maintain the confidentiality of the review process.

- Please notify the journal if you have any conflicts of interest with the author/s or the paper.

  1. Timeliness:

- Reviewers should complete their assessments within 3 weeks. If you foresee a delay, kindly inform the editorial team promptly.

  1. Criteria for rating the manuscript:

- Please ensure that the manuscript is read through its entirety. Suggest having a holistic evaluation before segmented grading. While evaluating the manuscript grade/rate the following aspects:

1. Novelty and scope: If the idea is original and fits the scope of the journal, does the conclusion justify the arguments put forth?

2. Language: is the language used appropriate, coherent and understandable?

3. Does the manuscript provide both the sides of the argument, evaluating its strengths and limitations?

4. Methodology: Scrutinize the clarity of the methodology and rationale employed by the author, ensuring that the methodology aligns with the research objective.

5. Citations: Check if the texts are original and not reused from another source without appropriate citations.

6. Drawings, Graphs and Tables : Check the relevance and clarity of drawing, graphs and tables.

7. Abstract and Keywords: Check the relevance and appropriateness of the abstract and keywords

8. Review submissions within your area of expertise, acknowledging any limitations or referring out of scope content back to the editor.

9. Constructive Feedback: Evaluate the manuscript's originality, significance, and relevance to law and/or policy.

- Provide constructive feedback to the author. Suggest improvements, but maintain a professional and respectful tone. Please ensure the comments are detailed so that the authors may correctly interpret it and address the issues raised.

- Do provide constructive feedback on Methodology, Analysis and organization of the paper.

10. Ethical Considerations: Verify that the research adheres to ethical standards and informed consent.

- In case of non-compliance with ethical standards in research including plagiarism, please inform the editor forthwith.

OVERALL RECOMMENDATION:

- Provide a clear recommendation on the manuscript (Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject).

- Justify your recommendation with specific reasons.

- Acceptance upon first review only to be given if there is absolutely no need for refinement.

SENDING BACK YOUR REVIEW TO THE EDITOR:

- In order to share your review back with the editor, kindly share the same in the form of a word document via mail at legalaidcentremh@gmail.com.

- Please ensure that each review is correctly labeled and documented.

REVISIONS:

- When a revision is recommended, be prepared to re-review the revised manuscript. Assess whether the author has adequately addressed your previous comments.

REVIEWERS EXPERTISE :

- If you believe you lack the expertise to review a particular manuscript, inform the editor promptly. Must mention this point much earlier in the review process.

FEEDBACK ON CONFLICTING REVIEWS

- If you notice significant discrepancies between your review and other reviewers, provide a clear explanation for your perspective.

COPYRIGHT POLICY

1. Introduction

The Miranda Law and Policy Review (MLPR), a flagship journal of Miranda House, University of Delhi, is dedicated to the dissemination of high-quality scholarly research. This policy outlines the copyright guidelines for authors, editors, and the journal.

2. Copyright Ownership

  • Author Ownership: Authors retain the copyright of their work upon publication in MLPR.
  • License to Publish: By submitting their manuscript to MLPR, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive , perpetual license to publish, reproduce, distribute, and archive the work in any medium or format.

3. Rights Granted to MLPR

By submitting their work to MLPR, authors grant the journal the following rights:

  • Publication: The right to publish the work in any format, including print, digital, and electronic formats.
  • Distribution: The right to distribute copies of the work through various channels, including libraries, online platforms, and databases.
  • Archiving: The right to archive the work in institutional repositories and databases to ensure long-term preservation and accessibility.

4. Author Rights

Authors retain the following rights to their published work:

  • Reproduction: The right to reproduce the work for personal use , educational purposes, and scholarly sharing.
  • Distribution: The right to distribute copies of the work to colleagues and students for non-commercial purposes.
  • Public Presentation: The right to present the work at conferences, seminars, and other professional gatherings
  • Derivative Works: The right to create derivative works based on the published article, provided that proper acknowledgment is given to the original publication in MLPR.

5. Open Access and Licensing

MLPR supports open access to scholarly research. Authors may choose to publish their work under a Creative Commons license, allowing various degrees of reuse:

  • CC BY (Attribution): Allows others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the work, even commercially, as long as proper credit is given to the author.
  • CC BY-NC (Attribution-NonCommercial): Allows others to remix, adapt, and build upon the work non-commercially, with proper credit to the author.
  • CC BY-NC-ND (Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives): Allows others to download the works and share them with others as long as they credit the author, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially.

6. Plagiarism and Ethical Standards

  • Originality: Authors must ensure that their work is original and not plagiarized. Plagiarized content will be rejected and could result in a ban on future submissions.
  • Citations: Proper citation of all sources and contributions from others is mandatory.

7. Copyright Transfer Agreement

Upon acceptance of their manuscript, authors will be required to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, confirming the transfer of specific rights to MLPR while retaining the rights mentioned above.

8. Dispute Resolution

In the event of any disputes regarding copyright or authorship, MLPR will follow the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines to resolve the issues fairly and transparently.

9. Amendments

MLPR reserves the right to amend this copyright policy at any time. Authors will be notified of any significant changes to the policy.
