With rapid advancements in science and technology, global industrialization, and societal development, the waste generation issue has emerged as an offshoot. Improper and inefficient management of diverse waste streams has serious consequences in terms of its impact on the environment and human health, wastage of resources, increased load on material reserves, climate change, and economic losses. Accordingly, there is a growing concern over the management of various wastes such as Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), Industrial waste, Bio- medical waste, Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste, Agricultural Waste, Polymeric & Plastic waste, including emerging wastes like Electronic waste (E-waste). Therefore, the development of well-planned and technology-driven waste management strategies is the need of the hour including means for the reduction of waste, its proper collection, transportation, disposal, treatment, and exploitation via waste-to-wealth routes. In this way, waste management is collective societal responsibility and thus creating awareness about waste management and imparting the necessary skills to effectively realize the same, through a structured course on waste management is of paramount importance. Therefore, given the current scenario and future needs, Miranda House offers 60 hours specially designed certificate program on waste management with a balanced combination of lectures by college faculties, invited experts, specific case studies, practicals, and hands-on training.
