Student Life

The English Debating Society of Miranda House is a group of individuals who are eager to learn, read and grow in various spheres of life. We try our best to train them in the art of debating by focusing on three key areas - manner, matter and method. We also encourage members to gain as much experience as they can, and try our best to accommodate the diverse identities that form a part of our society.

As a society, we partake in Parliamentary and Conventional Debates, which are competitive tournaments where members can participate as debaters or as judges. We train our members through mocks, which are in-house simulations of tournaments. We also include sessions and discussions in our training programme

We have three flagship events - Dialectics - our Asian Parliamentary Debate, Manzar - our British Parliamentary Debate, and Shama Kohli - our Conventional Debate. We have also collaborated with other organisations to organise one-time events such as the TFI Vanni x MH DebSoc Showcase Debate and the Ednita x MH DebSoc Debate.
