Orpheus, the Western Music Society was set up in 2012. Its primary focus is on a acapella singing unaccompanied by musical instruments, though the society also does sometimes incorporate instrumentalists. Orpheus aims at giving a platform to amateur singers with a wide vocal range regardless of their level of training. Members are recruited each year through an audition process that carries on for two weeks through two rounds. Apart from individual talent, the main focus while recruiting members is the ability to work well in a team, since the Society participates in both individual and group competitions at both the inter and intra college level.
The society holds regular team-building activities and rigorous practice sessions and has continued to do so online throughout the pandemic. No celebration at Miranda House, be it Independence Day, Republic Day or the annual festival, is complete without a performance by Orpheus.
